By far the brightest LCD monitor I’ve ever had. With AHCR turned on (which boosts brightness in bright scenes and dims in dark scenes, hence Asus High Contrast Ratio), gets crazy bright and is perfectly usable with my room light shining right above me, unlike my last 250 nits monitor. Pixels are sharp, helped by the VividPixel setting (set to 50 for me, good balance), and colours are extremely vivid. Butter smooth variable refresh rate, zero flicker through the entire 48-170Hz range. Response time somehow feels even quicker than my last 1ms monitor, which was 144Hz, I’m guessing it is the 165-170Hz increase. It really does make a noticeable difference which I didn’t expect. The 1800R curve is perfect for my liking, less aggressive than the typical 1500R you see around 32 inch monitors. All that said, don’t expect anything from the DisplayHDR 400 rating. The 10-bit colour, from my understanding, is not true 10-bit, some variation of it rather, and with HDMI 2.0 and DP 1.2 support only, you’re not getting the true HDR experience out of it, which is why I’m sticking to SDR. As far as that goes, amazing SDR performance with the 400+ nits, that’s the one good thing about the DisplayHDR 400 rating. Ghosting is to be expected from any VA panel, I’d say this one has a pretty typical ghosting level. One pitfall, avoid any level of overdrive, keep it at 0. Colourful pixels update noticeably faster than B/W in overdrive and you see terrible artifacts from it in dark scenes with motion, so just leave it off. I also don’t bother overclocking to the full 170Hz, 165 is good enough for me and avoids any extra ghosting. Overall: if you’re looking for HDR, go all out for OLED or at least aim for DisplayHDR 600+, but if you’re looking for a top-of-the-line SDR 32” gaming monitor, look no further! I got lucky with it at less than half retail price (open-box / refurbished), only the styrofoam packaging was slightly cracked which obviously has no impact on the monitor itself, was a no-brainer!
I had been using a very similar & nearly the same vintage Asus Tuff Gaming 32 inch VA monitor prior to purchasing this one. It was good but had limitations. I didn't realize just how many until using this truly gaming configured Strix XG32VC.
First and foremost, this monitor has virtually no light bleed compared to the Tuff version and even that monitor was very good... but the XG32VC blows it away. I kid you not, if there was ever a gaming monitor that mimicks OLED visuals, it is THIS one. Uniformity is spectacular, clarity is perfect at an approx. viewing distance of 24 inches and in 165 HZ mode, this monitor simply does not flicker or hiccup whatsoever. I run an all Amd machine and the Freesync Premium Pro works like a charm, no matter what I play.
Asus clearly states that if you go into 170 HZ overdrive, along with other visual enhancement modes, you are apt to see some flickering and such. And I can confirm that it indeed happens. So I simply left overdrive turned off and I couldn't be more happy. What the 170 HZ rating tells me is that this monitor has 'margin' to work with and as a result, it can lock 165 HZ all day and all night.
I also own a SpyderX Pro and needed it to dial in my Asus Tuff Gaming counterpart... but not on this display! While using the Asus Display Widget software, which I highly recommend installing btw, you can jump between all the different modes and see for yourself. In sRGB mode this monitor looks phenomenal and because of that, I've skipped calibrating it. Between my User settings for gaming and sRGB for content creation, this monitor completely fufills my needs. I couldn't be more pleased. As a side note, this monitor ships with a calibration sheet from the factory.
The 1800R curvature is the most I can tolerate... but that is a subjective matter. This panel is NOT OLED but that amount of curvature along with the stunning depth of black it achieves, makes for a very immersive experience.
This monitor is only HDR400 but it is the best one I've ever seen. Personally, I rarely use HDR mode in Windows but I'm happy to know that when I do want to switch to it - this monitor won't disappoint. HDR600 or better requires an IPS panel and I'm not a fan of IPS glow.
Another thing I've noticed on other gaming monitors is delay/lag coming out of hardware sleep/standby. The Asus Tuff monitor I had been using for a few years would take a long time coming out of its own imposed 'power down' mode. The XG32VC doesn't have this problem.
My only real gripe with this monitor is the lagginess of the Asus Display Widget. Once it is fully initialized, changing settings are instaneous... but the first 8 to 10 seconds upon opening it fresh (like cold start) has a period of no response. Predictively and consistent. And I'm fine with that. But once it is open and minimized in the Win task bar, it super quick and reactive as it needs to be.
Summary: The picture quality is unrivaled at this price point. The built in USB 3.0 hub is an added bonus. The added ability to use a Windows app to control most everything you'd want to change on the fly, regularly, is a solid "value add" in my book. Inky, uniform blacks, corner to corner... even in a dimly lit room. Fairly low power consumption for a monitor of this size - especially in non-HDR mode. No dead pixels! Three year warranty!
I was upgrading from an ASUS ROG PG279Q and I did not want to give up any of the crispness and refresh rate of that monitor. This monitor was a great choice. Came very well packaged with all the necessary cables. The extra size and the curvature are very nice in my current favorite game Escape from Tarkov. This size just covers that bit more of the peripheral of your vision to make the experience notably better even from a fantastic 27 inch. I will note that the monitor was blacking out regularly in Chrome. The previous monitor at the same refresh rate and resolution never did this. I found that disabling hardware acceleration in chrome resolved the issue immediately.
First high end monitor I've owned, and boy was it worth the money! Durable metal stand that's fully height and tilt adjustable. Just the right amount of size and curve for an immersive experience at desktop distance. Any bigger, and there would be too much had turning. Easy menus with customizable buttons for your most-used settings. Makes Cyberpunk really pop compared to the previous budget monitor I had been using. The KVM switch is also a tremendously useful bonus. When my partner works from home, all she has to do is plug in a single USB-C cable from her laptop to the monitor, and the desktop monitor, keyboard, mouse, and speakers all switch over. What an amazing time we live in XD
