The Verdict

In our high overclock test Scythe Ashura outperformed the likes of Prolimatech Megahalems Rev. C and SilverStone Argon AR01 by 4.5°C. That makes it a very high performance cooler. I do have to point out, though, that Megahalems was tested using a 120 mm fan while it does support a 140 mm unit; we might retest it in the future using Ashura's GlideStream 140 mm fan. But for now, Scythe Ashura performed exceptionally well in cooling tests while making high airflow noise. At least it didn't make any high pithced noise. Mounting was fairly simple, despite the size of the cooler. Fan mounting, on the other hand, could be better. Compatibility with tall RAM heatspreaders is definitely an advantage, especially since it is an enthusiast-class cooler. From a cooler of this price, though, we expect to see a tube of thermal compound added to the bundle. Nickel-plated heat pipes would also be a nice touch, considering the price. Though exposed copper heat pipes are sort of Scythe's signature. The size of the cooler could be both an advantage and disadvantage. But considering its performance, we'd say its size is worth it.

In conclusion, Scythe Ashura is a large, tough built and cool looking cooler which provides great performance, average acoustics and has just a few downsides.
