A Closer Look

SilverStone Argon AR01 is a very standard looking Tower type heatsink. It's 159 mm tall, 120 mm wide and 50 mm deep. It weights 420 grams without a fan. The body is composed of 52 aluminum fins, separated by 2 mm spaces. AR01 has three U shape heatpipes, which stick out a little at the top.

On the sides aluminum fins are folded in a few spots. Aluminum fins start at about 40 mm height, which means the cooler shouldn't interfere with fairly tall RAM module heatsinks. From the top we can see an unique feature - all aluminum fins are covered by bumps. These should somewhat influence fan airflow and increase thermal dissipation. A second optional fan can be mounted on the heatsink.

Argon AR01 has three U-shaped 8 mm thick copper direct-touch heatpipes. These are thicker than standard 6 mm heatpipes found in most coolers. Higher heatpipe thickness translates into higher cooling performance. Coolers base is fairly smooth for direct-touch heatpipe cooler, but not as smooth as of traditional coolers with copper base. Heatpipes are separated by 2mm thick aluminum lines.

Now let's take a look at the fan. It's a 120x120x25 mm PWM fan with sleeve bearing. It has 9 long blades and snips at 1000-2200 RPM creating a 37.2-81.4 CFM. It's rated at 16-33 dBA noise. Due to sleeve bearing it has a fairly short 40000 hours MTBF.

Fan has long indents along the blades in the front, as well as some smaller ones on the back side. Nice little touch is the high quality cable sleeving.
